If, on Friday, February 11th, 1876, Elisha Gray had dispatched his lawyer to the patent office before the weekend hit — that is, instead of waiting until Monday the 14th, when Alexander Graham Bell’s lawyer got to the same place, with processing fee ready to be paid — then this post wouldn’t exist, and the name “Alexander Graham Bell” would likely mean nothing to you. But fate is cruel, or at least was cruel to Elisha Gray, and the poor guy lost by a matter of hours. What happened, buddy? I know I’ve had unlucky days, but sheesh…
