223 years ago, on this day, this whole experiment began.
What they signed is the greatest testament to what the better angels of our nature are capable of. When our cynicism takes a back seat to optimism. When our faith in ourselves, and in those yet to come, takes the wheel. When reason, inclusiveness, and maturity win out. And best of all, when we realize our own humanity, and fess up that we’ve left stuff out — but we expect to get better.
